Discounts and exemptions

The vehicles below qualify for a 100 per cent Congestion Charge discount. You will need to register with tfl to receive the discount.

1. Pure Electric Cars

To qualify for this discount, your vehicle must be registered with the Driver Licensing and Vehicle Agency (DVLA) and have a fuel type of ‘electric‘ (you can check this on your V5C registration document).

2. Plug-in hybrid vehicles

The following ‘plug-in hybrid‘ vehicles which are listed on the TfL-approved list also qualify for a 100 per cent Congestion Charge discount.

3. Cars which emit 100g/km* or less of CO2 and that meet the Euro 5 standard for air quality

You can check the C02 emissions of your car on the V5C registration document. Any car registered as new with the DVLA on or after 1 January 2011 is deemed to meet the Euro 5 standard.  (Some cars registered before this date will also meet the Euro 5 standard).

Those driving or considering purchasing a new or current vehicle model can check its CO2 emissions (g/km) and Euro Standard with the franchised dealer or the vehicle manufacturer of the car to ensure that it meets the Greener Vehicle Discount (GVD) criteria.

Please note this discount is currently under consultation and as technology improves, it is likely the benchmark for the Greener Vehicle Discount will change.

* if registered before 28/06/2013. Cars registered after this date must emit 75g/km in order to qualify.
